DIY Crossbody Slide Camera Strap

What's the point of a crossbody camera strap? Traditional camera straps around the neck can put a lot of stress on the neck. A crossbody one takes the stress off! If you need to carry around your camera all day, then this could be a great alternative. I generally use this strap when I shoot events when I need to have two cameras with me.

It literally took a minute to set it up.

If you need to see how it's done, check out my tutorial here.

DIY Bench

DIY Bench

Confession: I've been watching a lot of Flea Market Flip lately. So I was compelled to make a bench after years of wanting one.

I found an easy tutorial from Basic Build for a footstool and I modified it for a bench. However, the suggested cost of that project was $35. It definitely cost a lot more and I have no idea when that post was created.

Here's the breakdown:
batting: $9.99 (45x60) - 50% off coupon = $4.99
fabric: (11.99/yd x2) - 25% off coupon = $17.98
3" high density foam: (49.99/yd x 1.139 yd) - 50% coupon = $28.47
legs: $4.98x 4 = $19.92
ply wood: salvaged from an old desk
(optional) spray paint: 2 cans (primer + gold) - 11.56 50% off coupon - $5.78

My total: $77.14 without taxes

Their list of materials with the current cost:
batting: $4/yd (on sale)
fabric:  random number: $5/yd
4" thick foam: $9.99 x 2 (2") = $20
legs: $2.98x4 = $11.92
leg plates plates: $1.98x4 = $7.92
ply wood: ???

Total: $48.84 without taxes

Even without buying plywood, the cost for the project itself is more expensive than what they suggested. All the materials I got were from Lowes, Jo-Ann, and AC Moore.  I wonder if I got materials from other stores, would it be cheaper?

Note: I omitted the leg plates and opted for wood glue instead when attaching the legs.

Overall, I'm really happy the way it turned out! I also conquered my fear of certain power tools!

Travel Size

Back in March, I went to London and Wales and I found a few ways to condense my products. Even the trial/travel size products sometimes take up too much space, so maybe this might help people who are struggling to fit everything in their carry ons and their purses. Take all your favorite products with you in an easy way!

I got my stackable pill jar at the Container Store, but Amazon has it too!

Why I Create

"Creativity feeds off conflict. It comes from being sensitive and from being hurt. From being let down and from devouring yourself. I use myself as fuel." - Yannis Philippakis

Being creative isn't all about making pretty things or cool stuff. Sometimes it's much sadder than that. I grew up as an only child and never had that many friends. In fact, every time I made a close friend in elementary school, they move away the next year. My creativity is born out of pure loneliness and not feeling good enough about myself. That is my driving force. I don't have anyone, but I got an imagination and a disembodied friend called music.

"Sadness is a blessing. Sadness is a curse" - Lykke Li

I often feel misunderstood and that alienates me even more from the world. I wished I have a constant flow of friends, but at the same time all those experiences of doing everything alone gave me a different perspective in life. I don't think I would be the same person if I didn't have those specific experiences. From my outer appearance, I seem like a happy person and I'm generally am, but there are many moments I come home and these silent cries would come out. The sadness inside me forces me at times to create something; something dark, something bright, or something beautiful. As a result, it drowns out my own insecurities.

One Door Closes, Another Door Opens

I finally took my life long dream of going to England and Wales. After months and months of planning, slowly everything fell apart, starting out with my friend who last minute changed her mind and decided not to go. “Alright, it’s my life long dream to do this, I cannot go. I have to make the best out of this situation.” That’s the mentality I brought with me to England.

Instead, the moment I stepped out of the plane, things went awry. I got ripped off, got terribly lost in London, and my online friend I was going to meet IRL became this whole drama and ended up losing a friend. Things could not get worse. However, the moment I ended the drama with my online friend and stopped waiting, I felt much happier as a person. No longer do I have to wait to see if he can fit me into his schedule. I felt free.

I was supposed to go see a show with my online friend, but since he’s no longer in the picture, I need to start having my own adventure by myself. Then delightful things started to happened. I made a new friend along the way to my destination. I grieved over the death of a friendship, but once that door closed, another one opens. It’s funny how the polarity of life works. After all the crappy things that happened to me, life redirects you into another different and possibly better experience. I could never imagine I would lose a friend like this, but I never imagine I made a new friend either.

The same thing happened when my new friend last minute reschedule, freeing up my last night in London. I could either stay in or do something epic. I chose to do something epic. I ended up seeing a few local bands and befriending with one of them. If I chose to stay in, my outlook in life would be different. I could always wait for opportunities to come at my door or I can make my own opportunities.

At this moment, the era of waiting for things to happen is coming to a close. Cheers to a new start of not waiting, but creating. Make things happen, girl.
